High School Football Recap for Games played on September 11 & 12

Marion County Warriors beat Sequatchie County 16-0, with Quincy Mills adding two interceptions for a season total of five. Mills returned one interception 33 yards for a touchdown, helping hold Sequatchie to just 155 total yards after they had previously averaged over 200 passing yards per game.

Class 2A’s Marion County (4-0) hosts Chattanooga Prep this Friday, while Sequatchie County (2-2) will be at home against the (3-1) Cascade Champions. Hear the Warriors game at www.theriver1049.com, and the Indians game will be broadcast on Country Roads 93.3.

 

South Pittsburg 63, Brainerd 0: South Pittsburg gained 433 yards—227 rushing and 206 passing—while limiting Brainerd to 7 total yards. Including last week’s 40 points against Sequatchie County, South Pittsburg has scored 103 unanswered points following a shutout loss to Silverdale Baptist in their season opener.

Caden Jones completed 11 of his 15 pass attempts for 206 yards and three touchdowns. Brandon Goldsmith had three receptions for 75 yards and two touchdowns. Anthony Gibbs Jr. rushed for 91 yards on 11 carries and scored three touchdowns.

South Pittsburg (2-1), the state’s Class 1A #2 team will travel to Class 5A Franklin County (1-3) on Friday. Check out the game on WEPG-The River 104.9 or www.theriver1049.com.

 

The Whitwell Tigers played on Thursday night against the Grundy County Yellow Jackets. It turned out to be a difficult night for the Tigers. The Yellow Jackets jumped to a 20-0 lead at halftime and went on to win 36-6 to improve to 4-0 on the season.

AJ Frisbee had a 65-yard rushing touchdown and a 20-yard interception TD to lead Grundy County. Whitwell’s only score came on a 4th down 6-yard run with 9 minutes left in the contest.

The Tigers (0-4) are back in action on Friday, hosting Lookout Valley (2-2). The Yellow Jackets will travel to Pickett County (0-4).
