This week, a brief display error on the state’s GoVoteTN website led to confusion among some Marion County voters. Outdated early voting information from the November 5, 2024, General Election appeared without the accompanying year. The omission caused some residents to believe early voting opportunities were currently available when, in fact, there are no elections scheduled in Marion County for 2025.
David Riley, Administrator of Elections for the Marion County Election Commission, emphasized that the mix-up was purely accidental.
“This was simply an unfortunate oversight on the part of the site administrator,” Riley said. “There was absolutely no malice here.”
Riley encouraged voters to use the county’s own website as their most reliable and up-to-date local resource.
“We always encourage our neighbors to visit marionvotes.com as their personal backup,” Riley added. “Our homepage includes a quick pull-down election calendar and a more detailed ‘Election Schedule’ under the ‘Elections’ tab to help voters stay informed about local dates and deadlines.”
Within two hours of being notified, officials at the state level corrected the GoVoteTN posting and added a clarification confirming that no elections are being held in Marion County in 2025.
“It’s nice to know we have such a strong partnership with the state,” Riley said. “They responded quickly and worked with us to clear up the confusion before it spread further.”
