Three Area Teams Remain in TSSAA Playoffs

Marion County 35, South Greene 0: The Warriors scored two TDs on defense and three more on offense. Brayden Pickett returned an interception 55 yards for a touchdown, and Mason Mays scooped up a fumble and took it 29 yards to the end zone. Mays added another touchdown rushing.

Third-ranked Marion will host fifth-ranked Gordonsville (12-0) this Friday, which defeated Oneida 21-6, in next week’s quarterfinals.

 

South Pittsburg 49, Oliver Springs 0: South Pittsburg held the Bobcats (7-5) to just 4 yards on 17 rushes and forced three turnovers, outgaining the visitors 404-104 in total offense.

JaMychal Buckner ran 13 times for 105 yards and three touchdowns, and Dayon Cooper finished with 141 yards of offense (one carry for a 61-yard touchdown and three catches for 80 yards, including a 53-yard score). Caden Jones completed 11 of 16 passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns, and Zech Green ran for 50 yards on just five carries and a touchdown.

The Pirates (11-1) will host No. 4 Clay County (11-1), which rolled past Midway, 52-21.

 

The fourth-ranked Megis County Tigers defeated 10th-ranked Sequatchie County 49-19 to end the season for the Indians at 8-4 on the year.

Kason Hicks finished with 121 yards and two touchdowns rushing for Sequatchie, while Hunter Minton threw for 91 yards and ran for 69 yards and a touchdown.

 

Bledsoe County 21, Happy Valley 20: Bledsoe secured the win by stopping a late 2-point conversion, moving to the quarterfinals for the second time in three years. Next, Bledsoe (10-2) hosts Eagleton (9-3), which beat Grundy County 17-6.
