A fiery crash between two tractor-trailers near Exit 134 on Monteagle Mountain led to major traffic delays on Interstate 24 and Highway 41 early Friday morning. Both trucks, one belonging to Amazon, caught fire, creating a dangerous scene for other vehicles. EMS took one driver with non-life-threatening injuries.
Numerous agencies responded to the incident, including Grundy EMA and EMS, Monteagle Fire and Rescue, Constable Kyle Collins, Tracy City, Pelham, and Sewanee Fire and Rescue, Monteagle Police, the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office, the Tennessee Highway Patrol, and others. While crews fought the truck fires, a semi broke down on Hwy 41 in Pelham, leading to additional traffic congestion.
Once the fires were put out, cleanup teams, such as Ikard Towing, took almost 10 hours to clear the scene.
