Sequatchie County Murder Suspects Appear in Court

New details emerged Monday in the brutal killing of a Sequatchie County woman.

A judge heard new evidence in the case against David Gardiner and his teenage stepson, Gabriel Vilchez — both charged in the death of 47-year-old Silvia Vilchez.

Deputies discovered her burned remains earlier this year in Sequatchie County. Investigators say the teen admitted striking his mother with a baseball bat, and that Gardiner helped burn and hide her body. Gardiner denies any role in the killing.

After the hearing, the judge set Gardiner’s bond at $250,000 and denied bond for Vilchez.
