According to court records, a lawsuit alleging that two Jasper, TN police officers violated a man’s constitutional rights and caused him emotional and physical harm during a traffic stop has been dismissed.
According to a court report from Judge Curtis L. Collier, for the reasons set forth in the accompanying memorandum, Defendants’ motion for summary judgment (Doc. 24) is GRANTED, and Plaintiff’s 42 U.S.C. § 1983 claims against all defendants are DISMISSED WITH PREJUDICE. Plaintiff’s state law claims are DISMISSED WITHOUT PREJUDICE. The Clerk is DIRECTED to close this case file.
Body camera footage from the 2023 incident received widespread attention online. The traffic stop occurred on September 19, 2023, when officers stopped Samuel Hryncewiz.
Authorities stated that Officers Justin Graham and Derrick Long deployed a stun gun on Hryncewiz and removed him from the passenger side of the vehicle. Police initially reported the presence of what they believed to be a firearm in the back seat; however, it was later identified as a BB gun.
The charges brought against Hryncewiz were subsequently dropped.
