The Jackson County, AL school board has honored two state championship basketball teams at a recent meeting.
The North Sand Mountain Lady Bison secured the state Class 2A championship in Birmingham, with Kayden Reyes earning recognition as the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. Coached by Jeremiah Haynes, the NSM girls delivered the school’s very first state title.
Meanwhile, on the boys’ side, the Section Lions claimed the 2A state championship, guided by Brodie Overdear who scored 17 points in the final game. Coach Derek Wynn led his team to Section’s first state title since 2022.
This is the first time ever that Jackson County, AL saw two local teams win state titles within the same year.
