Investigators say human remains found in Monteagle last month belong to 75-year-old Richard Barnhill who was last seen in July of 2025 at an RV park where he lived.
Monteagle Police said Barnhill was reported missing in September of 2025.
The man’s body was recovered in late March of this year at the 700 block of Trussell Road in Marion County.
The Marion County Sheriff’s department and Monteagle Police responded to the road on the mountain. The local law enforcement officials then called for the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation for an investigation.
The TBI confirmed to Sequatchie Valley Now on Friday night that the remains of Barnhill were confirmed after an autopsy was performed by a state medical examiner in Nashville. The investigation into the circumstances leading to his death remains active and ongoing.
