Excessive Force Lawsuit against Jasper Police has been Dropped
The lawsuit filed against the Town of Jasper and police officers, alleging excessive force when they arrested a man was dismissed earlier this month.
The federal Court of Appeals in Cincinnati dismissed Samuel Hrynecwicz’s appeal in a multimillion-dollar civil rights suit against the Town of Jasper and two of its police officers after parties reached a settlement this month. The man’s attorney declined to provide the settlement amount.
In 2023, Jasper Police arrested Samuel Hrynecwicz after he was reportedly stopped for running a stop sign and almost colliding with a police cruiser. When officers pulled him over, they discovered a gun inside the vehicle and instructed all occupants to exit.
Force was applied by the officers to remove Hrynecwicz from the car, and the DA maintained this was consistent with department policy and procedure.
