Late last week, the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) updated its bylaws in preparation for this change, which was enacted by state legislation in February. The revised rule removes a long-standing restriction but applies solely to first-time transfers.
Despite the easing of transfer limitations, recruiting regulations will remain unchanged and are expected to receive closer scrutiny from the TSSAA. Students may utilize this transfer provision once during middle school and once during high school, provided the transfer occurs between school years—specifically over the summer—to ensure immediate eligibility.
Even with transfer restrictions being eased, the recruiting rules will remain the same and likely be monitored even more by the TSSAA.
The law is scheduled to take effect on July 1.
