The City of Pikeville is experiencing a significant drought and has implemented mandatory water restrictions for residents and businesses.
The community relies on five wells for its daily water supply; however, one well is currently producing no water because of the drought. Mayor Philip Cagle estimates that the area needs approximately 3–4 inches of rainfall to return to a safe and sustainable water level.
The restrictions are effective immediately. Pikeville officials are asking all residents and businesses to discontinue nonessential water use, including lawn irrigation, vehicle washing, and pressure washing.
