The City of South Pittsburg reported Saturday afternoon concerning a severe straight‑line wind storm with heavy damage in the city. Emergency crews responded to various locations, but thankfully no injuries were reported.
Congressman Scott DesJarlais, who represents Tennessee’s 4th District, also posted about the storm, sharing a photo of the roof torn off the Senior Living Center. All residents were removed to other facilities and motels.
In addition to blocked roads and that damage to the facility, there was power outages, according to the Sequachee Valley Electric Cooperative. SVEC reported that power was returned just before daylight on Sunday morning.
The storm’s strength led to the senior center damage, damage to the Dixie Freeze, vehicles crushed by heavy trees and downed powerlines in multiple locations.
