Severe straight‑line wind storm shut down Senior Center
Thirty-nine residents remain displaced after powerful winds on Saturday tore part of the roof from the Chester Powell Senior Citizens Apartments in South Pittsburg.
On Monday, crews returned to air out the building and make temporary roof repairs. During the storm, large sections of roofing landed in the street, blocking both lanes of a downtown road. Repairs may take at least a month.
All residents have temporary accommodations, including 15 who are staying at a nearby hotel in Kimball.
