Don’t Run from Police; New Law begins in Alabama

Effective Thursday (10/01/2026), it is now a Class D Felony to flee from law enforcement in Alabama.

Laws change to incorporate more strict punishment for fleeing and all Alabama police are working toward ensuring that pursuits end quickly, efficiently, and with minimal risk to the public.

Jackson County Sheriff Rocky Harnen said the tougher penalties give law enforcement more tools when dealing with people who decide to flee.
