Recent changes have been implemented regarding eligibility for SNAP benefits in Tennessee. On Monday, the Tennessee Department of Human Services (TDHS) announced revisions to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) work requirements for Able-Bodied Adults Without Dependents (ABAWDs), following the passage of HR 1 in July.
Under the new regulations, ABAWDs must fulfill specific work-related criteria to continue receiving SNAP benefits. These requirements apply to adults aged 18 through 64 who do not have disabilities and do not reside with children under 14 years old.
According to the updated guidelines, ABAWD recipients are limited to three months of SNAP benefits within three years unless they are employed, volunteer, or participate in an approved job training program for at least 20 hours per week or 80 hours per month.
Individuals who believe they qualify for an exemption should submit their verification documentation via the One DHS Customer Portal by October 31, 2025.
