On Wednesday, 12/10/2025, the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on Old Altamont Street in Tracy City in attempts to locate a subject for Aggravated Assault and False Imprisonment warrants.
During the attempt to locate, the suspect barricaded himself inside the home. With the knowledge that the suspect was armed with a firearm, the deputy conducted safe measures and waited for back up.
The sheriff’s office had a quick response from other agencies including Tracy City Police Department, Marion County SWAT, Department of Homeland Security, and Grundy County EMS. With the help from these agencies the subject was taken into custody without incident.
James Layne was charged with 2 counts of Unlawful Carrying or Possession of a Weapon, False Imprisonment, 2 counts of Aggravated Assault, Harassment Verbal Threat, and Aggravated Kidnapping.
