At 4:09 PM on Saturday, Dunlap Fire Department was dispatched to a residential structure fire on Rankin Avenue across the street from Wendy’s.
Dunlap Police was first to arrive and confirmed a working structure fire. The older house, built originally in 1941, was occupied by the current owner who was not home at the time. The homeowner was sitting with a relative when the fire broke out. The home sustained substantial damage.
The volunteer firefighters were on scene for approximately 4 hours The weather conditions were cold with sometimes raining or sleeting and freezing rain during the fire.
Dunlap Fire responded with Engines 1 and 2 and Rescues 1 and 2 and 20 volunteer firefighters. Dunlap Police and Sequatchie Sheriff Deputies assisted with traffic. Also, Dunlap Fire sends out a big thank you to Sequatchie County Rescue for the hot coffee.
There were no injuries. Investigation into the cause and origin pointed to an older heater being used in a rear bedroom.
