
Porter Eli Mitchem
On February 25, 2026, at approximately 8:00 PM, officers with the Scottsboro Police Department responded to a residence on Perry Street in reference to a call for service.
Upon arrival, officers made contact with the homeowner. While speaking at the door, officers detected the odor of marijuana coming from inside the home. Officers then conducted a check of the residence and observed marijuana and drug paraphernalia in plain view.
Written consent to search the residence was obtained from individuals at the home. During the search, officers located numerous items of drug paraphernalia and a Smith & Wesson AR-22 rifle with a defaced serial number in one bedroom. The owner of that room was identified as Porter Eli Mitchem (19 of Scottsboro).
Porter Mitchem was placed under arrest for the following:
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
- Possession of a Firearm with an Altered Serial Number

Elton Eric Mitchum
In another bedroom, officers located marijuana, digital scales, and a safe containing approximately 151.2 grams of marijuana, 2.7 grams of concentrated THC wax, controlled substance medications, packaging materials, and another firearm. The owner of this bedroom was identified as Elton Eric Mitchum (66 of Scottsboro).
Elton Mitchem was placed under arrest for the following:
- Possession of Marijuana 1st Degree
- Possession of a Controlled Substance (Hydrocodone)
- Possession of a Controlled Substance (Concentrated THC Wax)
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Both individuals were transported to the Scottsboro City Jail for booking and later transferred to the Jackson County Jail without incident.
