Work is underway on a long-term fix to stabilize SR 108 in Whitwell (Marion County). The section of roadway had been gradually sliding, with pavement dropping and shifting over time.
While temporary patches helped, crews are now implementing a long-term stabilization solution. The project includes installing new culverts to better manage water flow and constructing a soldier pile wall, which is when steel piles are drilled deep into rock with a reinforced concrete wall anchored into the slope. These measures will help prevent future slides and reduce long-term maintenance needs.
Construction is scheduled for completion on Aug. 31, 2027.
