Obituaries

James C. “JC” Layne, age 74, of Whitwell, passed away Friday, August 4, 2023.

He retired from TCC Coal Company where he worked as a foreman. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jess Hamp and Ether Slatton Layne; grandchild, Michael Shane Griffith; brother, Albert Layne; sister, Barbara Dill.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 55 years, Ida Lee Floyd Layne; children, Jessie Griffth, Scottie (Sherri) Layne, Judy Atterton, Keyonia Morrison, Maddux Henry, Stefan Carter and Desiree Carter all of Whitwell, Lance Layne and Norma McDonald of Spencer; step-daughter, Brook Hopkins of Spencer; grandchildren, Nekia (TJ) Griffth, Tristan (Gabrielle) Layne, Dylan Layne, Ryleah Layne, Roger Atterton, Ricky Atterton, Raven Atterton, Richard Atterton, Michaela Henry, and Byron Henry; 24 great grandchildren; sisters, Patsy (Steve) Carter, Agnes (Mike) Turner, and Annalou Myers; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Family will receive friends 4-8 Tuesday, August 8, 2023 and 10-8 Wednesday, August 9, 2023

Funeral services will be 12noon, Thursday, August 10, 2023, in the funeral home chapel with Reverends Nathan Colvin and Ronnie Parton officiating. Interment will follow in the Griffith Creek Cemetery.
