Obituaries

Martha Lou "Marty" Shelton Layne, age 79 of Powells Crossroads, TN passed away on Friday, January 2, 2026. She was a long time member of Oak Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She served many years on the Board of Christian Education of the TN/GA Presbytery. She also served as a Sunday School Teacher for many years at Oak Grove.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. "Bob" Layne; parents, C.S. and Jaunita McCurry Shelton; brothers, David Shelton and Rev. Robert Shelton.

Those left to cherish her memories are her children, Rev. Phillip Layne of Whitwell, Marian "Kitty" (Barry) Griffith of Whitwell; brother, John Shelton of Pikeville; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Services will be held Monday, January 5, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. CST at Oak Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 8150 Griffith Hwy, Whitwell TN, 37397, with Rev. Brenda Woods, Rev. Rhonda McGowan, and Rev. Kriss McGowan officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Online condolences can be made at www.reedfamilyfh.com. Arrangements are by Reed Funeral Home, 11675 Hwy 28, Whitwell, TN. Visitation will be held Sunday, January 4, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. CST. at Reed Funeral Home and Monday, January 5, 2026 from 12:00 to 1:00 CST at the church.
