At 6:24 PM Thursday, 12/7/2023, the Dunlap Fire Department was dispatched to a semi-truck accident on Cagle Mountain Hwy 111.

The accident was just below the top of the mountain, and the truck had gone over the side and was resting against trees approximately 30 to 40 yards down an embankment.

The truck was on its top with the driver trapped inside. Dunlap Fire requested mutual aid from Piney VFD and Griswold Wrecker Service. One group of firefighters began extrication, and another group began setting up a haul system to get the patient up the steep embankment.

This was a long technical extrication, and Erlanger ESORT was called for patient assessment. After 1 hour and 45 minutes, the patient was finally freed from the wreckage with non-life-threatening injuries.

Agencies involved included Dunlap VFD, Piney VFD, Cagle VFD, Erlanger ESORT, LifeForce, Puckett EMS, Sequatchie County EMA, TDOT, and Sequatchie County Rescue Squad.
