SVEC Says Be Prepared for Extreme Cold

Are you ready for the predicted temperature drops over the next few days? Extreme winter weather typically means increased energy use. Keep your home warm and safe while saving energy and money with these tips from the Sequachee Valley Electric Cooperative.

  • Don’t block the heat. Make sure all air vents and other heating elements are not blocked by rugs or furniture.
  • Get Cozy. Add additional layers for extra warmth and snuggle under your favorite heavyweight blanket.
  • Mind the thermostat. Set the thermostat to 68 degrees or higher if you have traditional heating and cooling.
  • Take advantage of the sunlight. Open window coverings on south-facing windows during the day to let natural sunlight in to warm your home. Close them at night to block the chilly night air.
  • Block air leaks. Seal windows and exterior doors with caulk.
  • Stay moving. keep as active as possible to boost your circulation. Light exercise will help keep you warm.
