Story Correction: Sunday Morning Fire at Prison in Bledsoe County

Photos provided

Early Sunday morning, around 4:30, multiple fire departments were dispatched to a structure fire at Bledsoe County Correctional Complex (state prison) on Horsehead Road. An outbuilding housing lawn equipment was fully engulfed.

It had been reported that a heating stove was in the building to keep some goats warm. That information was incorrect. A nearby building that housed dogs was safely evacuated due to the other building that was burning.

Firefighting efforts were hampered by the extremely cold weather and the possibility of the cold water freezing.

The building was a total loss, and there were no injuries.

Responding fire departments were Mt Crest, Cumberland County, 9-mile, Pikeville, Fall Creek Fall, and Piney.
