On Saturday, July 6, officers with the Dunlap Police Department responded to Walmart for a report of a person making threats of violence with a firearm inside the store and towards police.
Prior to police arrival, officers were notified that the male subject, Lucas Cain Crawford was attempting to leave the business in a yellow Chevrolet Cobalt. Officers observed the vehicle leaving the parking lot at a high rate of speed.
As the vehicle was exit exiting onto Rankin Ave. Crawford struck a vehicle and left the scene of the accident. At that time, officers attempted to perform a traffic stop on Crawford, but he refused to stop. Crawford continued to evade officers for some time.
Dunlap Police reports that during the pursuit, Crawford intentionally rammed two patrol units in an attempt to get away.
Crawford continued driving in a reckless manner and nearly struck several vehicles head on. Crawford continued to evade officers until he struck another vehicle near Hobbs Ridge Rd. and Rankin Ave. Crawford’s vehicle then came to rest in the yard of a resident., where he was taken into custody.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the motor vehicle collision. No injuries were reported in the crashes.
Crawford was charged in Sequatchie County General Sessions Court with felony reckless endangerment, felony evading, and two counts of aggravated assault on a first responder.
