Local crews responded to a hazmat situation involving a semi truck on I-24Â late Wednesday afternoon.
Fire crews from the Haletown Volunteer Fire Department and other emergency agencies responded to the incident which involved a hazardous waste spill on I-24 Westbound near mile marker 159 (approaching exit 158 / TVA Road).
The interstate was down to one lane as crews worked to clean up the spill. Traffic was backed up beyond the Haletown-New Hope exit for nearly an hour while the work was performed.
Officials said there was no threat to the public during the incident.
The hazardous waste spill was quickly contained and traffic soon returned to normal.
