Travelers on I-24 Westbound may have found themselves in a bit of a slow-down on Thursday near lunchtime after a vehicle caught on fire, igniting the grass along the interstate in the same area.
Haletown Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the scene around 11:21 AM on I-24 westbound at mile marker 160. Engine 3 responded to the scene.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the grass fire and ensure the car fire did not reignite. The fire was the cause of a mechanical failure of the car.
Tennessee Highway Patrol and Marion County Sheriff’s deputies were also on the scene.
No injuries were reported.
