On Saturday, September 7, 2024, just before 5:00 PM Central, Dunlap Fire received an initial assignment for a fire in a flower bed at the Valley View Garden Apartments on Highway 28 in Dunlap. The assignment was quickly upgraded to a structure fire.
Dunlap Fire Chief Norman Hatfield arrived to find a mulch bed with approximately 5-10-foot-high flames. The fire had already damaged the roof awnings and the apartment’s main door. Chief Hatfield’s quick arrival and deployment of an extinguisher greatly prevented any further fire spread.
An attack line was utilized to extinguish any remaining fire, and firefighters checked multiple areas of the building for any extension. No further fire or damage was located, and no injuries were reported on the scene. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
Dunlap Police and Sequatchie County Sheriff’s deputies evacuated the apartment unit and helped suppress the fire before the arrival of the Dunlap Fire apparatus.
