Over the last few months, the Dunlap Police Department has received numerous complaints about several local businesses selling alcoholic beverages to underage people. Underage persons possessing and consuming alcoholic beverages have also been a huge issue in the community.
Last week, the Dunlap Police Department conducted an underage operation of a prohibited sale or distribution of alcoholic beverages to persons under 21 years of age. The Police Department utilized an individual under 21 years of age, who was not a minor, to attempt controlled buys from all businesses in the City of Dunlap that sell alcoholic beverages. The Police Department was able to purchase alcoholic beverages at several businesses during the operation. The department cited 6 different individuals into Dunlap Municipal Court for unlawful sale and distribution of alcoholic beverages to underage persons.
The Police Department would like to recognize the businesses that operated within the law and did not sell alcoholic beverages to an underage person: Circle K, Exxon, Sequatchie Liquor, Walmart, Dunlap Discount Tobacco, Walgreens, Smopfy Smoke Shop, and Tienda Mexicana.
The Dunlap Police Department believes in preventing underage possession and consumption of alcoholic beverages. The department will continue to perform these operations to provide a safe community for all citizens.
