Last week, the Sequatchie County Indians stuffed a 2-point conversion attempt by South Pittsburg with less than a minute remaining to hold on for a one-point win.
On Friday night, the Indians pulled off a huge upset over the state’s 2nd-ranked Class 2-A team, the Marion County Warriors, 13-10.
Will Machado hit a 39-yard field goal as time expired for Sequatchie County.
Sequatchie senior quarterback Sam Evitts threw for 118 yards, and sophomore running back Kason Hicks rushed 11 times for 81 yards and a 2-yard touchdown.
Tilton Pickett threw for 141 yards for Marion, while Mason Mays rushed for 59 yards, and Zaiden Humphrey scored on a 25-yard run.
Bledsoe County continued winning as they defeated Wartburg Central 42-12. Caymen Siever ran for 158 yards and two touchdowns, and Austyn Rains also scored twice as the Warriors (4-1, 1-1 Region 2-2A) built a 35-6 lead by halftime and cruised past the Bulldogs (0-4, 0-2).
The Whitwell Tigers’ defense controlled Sale Creek on Friday night. The Tigers won in a shutout on the road 24-0.
Senior quarterback Brandon Easterly threw two touchdowns and ran for another to lead the unbeaten Tigers (5-0, 2-0 Region 3-1A). Easterly connected with Bennett McDougal on both scoring passes, covering 31 and 34 yards, and added a 7-yard touchdown run as Whitwell outgained the Panthers 425-174 in total yards.
