The Marion County Sheriff’s Department is reminding everyone that it’s important to stay vigilant as scams are becoming increasingly frequent. They want to make sure you’re aware of a couple of alarming trends:
Spoofed Calls: Some individuals are receiving calls that appear to be from our MCSD line. The caller claims to be from the MCSD jail and demands payment. Please remember, the MCSD will NEVER call you for payment over the phone! Most law enforcement agencies follow the same protocol.
Phishing Texts: There are also texts circulating that look like they’re from Apple. If you click on any links or follow the instructions, scammers can gain access to all your personal information.

NEVER click on links from unknown senders.
Do NOT answer calls from unfamiliar numbers.
