Marion County Road Superintendent, Cory Pickett, announced at the Marion County Commission’s monthly meeting on Monday night that the Highway Department will be paving a portion of Sequatchie Mountain Road soon.

Pickett says crews will be paving from from the road’s intersection with Valley View Highway (next to the Sequatchie Food Market store) to about one mile up the road — up the side of the mountain.

Pickett says he signed a contract last week to begin the project under state aid.  He says his department had received numerous calls of concern due to the road’s condition.

He says the project should get underway sometime in April.

Pickett also asked the Commission for permission to donate a piece of the highway department’s equipment to the Marion County Rescue Squad rather than declare it surplus equipment for sale.

The commission approved the donation of a 2005 Chevy 3500 1-ton truck unanimously.
