As summer approaches, the Tennessee Department of Transportation’s (TDOT) deadline to finish Phase 2 of the I-24/I-75 split project is approaching.
TDOT said Tuesday that some of the project’s work will continue past the original projected completion date of summer 2025.
TDOT started Phase 2 of the project in June 2023.
Wright Brothers Construction Company of Charleston, Tennessee, was awarded the nearly $161 million construction project for Phase 2.
One of the safety concerns TDOT had for drivers using the split was that there was not enough distance when merging.
TDOT’s construction goals for Phase 2 of this project included widening I-75 to 8 lanes, replacing bridges, and improving on-ramps between the two interstates.
As for I-24, state officials expect traffic flow to return to normal around Labor Day 2025.
Also, a new interchange is being constructed at I-75 and Hamilton Place. It will be completed in 2027.
