Vehicle Drivers Be Aware of Bicycle Race this Saturday

The Hincapie Gran Fondo bicycle race is returning Saturday, May 3, 2025. This will affect Signal Mountain Road, Suck Creek Mountain, Powell’s Crossroads, Griffith Highway, Jasper, Guild, Lookout Valley and other points. More than 1,000 bikes will be leaving downtown Chattanooga at 8:00 AM Eastern, then head for Suck Creek via Signal Mountain Road. There will be a 57-mile “Medio” route, a 79-mile “Gran” route, and a 10-mile “Piccolo” route that will cover downtown and the North Shore.

After crossing Suck Creek, the route proceeds to Powell’s Crossroads, then south on Griffith Highway past the ball fields. For the shorter “Medio” route, riders will continue to Marion County Park, and then on to Guild and Lookout Valley, and back downtown. For the “Gran” route, riders will split off Griffith Highway at South Valley Road, cross Highway 28, then do a loop on Sequatchie Mountain before rejoining the main route and heading to Marion County Park, Guild, etc.

Numerous law enforcement officers and other escort/support vehicles, including motorcycles. It is important to respect any direction given by them, plan your day accordingly, and watch for bicycles Saturday morning, especially on curvy roads like Suck Creek Road and Griffith Highway, as well as other spots with blind curves and limited shoulders. Exercise caution during race hours.
