Members of the Pikeville Fire Department, the Dunlap Fire Department, the Piney Volunteer Fire Department, and others recently completed a Rope Rescue Operations course delivered by instructors with the Tennessee Fire and Codes Academy.
The State of Tennessee Fire Commission recognizes three levels of Rope Rescue Certification: Awareness, Operations, and Technician. To become certified, participants must pass the class, be checked on their skills, and pass a commission-proctored exam.
The 36-hour course focused primarily on hands-on and field training, culminating in a final day of practical exercises at Piney Falls within Fall Creek Falls State Park. PFD has been actively developing a specialized rope team to address the unique challenges posed by the new Aviagen feed mill and the increasing number of incidents in our area requiring rope access capabilities.
