The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security says a fraudulent text message about unpaid tolls has been circulating recently.
The department says this is a smishing scam, an SMS phishing attempt to steal your personal and financial information.
To avoid falling victim to this scam, follow this checklist:

- Do not reply.
- Report the message to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center at www.ic3.gov.
It is also essential to remember that a legitimate government agency will never ask for payment or personal information through an unsolicited text message.
