On Saturday afternoon, around 5 PM, Haletown Fire and Rescue responded to Hwy 41 and Hwy 134 for multiple trees down after a strong storm had passed through the area. Winds were reported at over 80mph during the peak of the storm.
Upon arrival, the decision was made to call for mutual aid due to the immense volume of trees. Jasper Highlands, along with Sequatchie Fire, responded. The hardworking firefighters were able to clear both roads, allowing them to be reopened for traffic.
The Marion County Highway Department also worked to clear other roads in the county.
Strong straight-line winds went through Grundy County on Saturday afternoon. SVEC reported numerous trees and wires down across the areas. SVEC crews and contractors were dispatched. A transmission line that feeds the Summerfield substation went out, causing an outage in the Tracy City and Coalmont areas.
