Busy Saturday for Dunlap Fire Department

Just after the storm on Saturday, June 7, 2025, the Dunlap Volunteer Fire Department received 4 alarm assignments within an hour.

The first call was at 3:49 PM for a fire alarm on Apache Lane. Three minutes later, there was the report of a single car accident on Hwy 111 just over the top of the mountain on Cagle. Dunlap Police responded to the fire alarm and found it to be a false alarm. Rescue 1 responded to the accident and saw a truck that had hydroplaned and gone off the road up an embankment and flipped once, landing back on its wheels. There were no injuries.

At 4:36 PM CST, units returning to the station from the accident were assigned to an electrical fire caused by a tree that had come into contact with power lines. The tree branches were burning each time the line attempted to re-energize itself. Firefighters arrived, secured the area, and waited for SVEC to arrive. A SVEC lineman cut the tree and then left to reset breakers down the line.

While firefighters were attending to the electrical fire, at 4:51 PM CST, they received a report of a vehicle on fire at the bottom of Smith Mountain on the Smith Mountain Road. There were no injuries.

Thanks to the Dunlap Police Department, Sequatchie County Sheriff’s deputies, Sequatchie County Emergency Management Agency, and SVEC.
