State Senator Janice Bowling
Grundy County is once again considering providing teachers with a bonus, following a proposal from State Senator Janice Bowling. This comes after the board had previously decided to withdraw from a state program that would have granted teachers a $2,300 bonus.
Senator Bowling has announced her plan to introduce legislation in the next session to secure state funds for Grundy County school teachers. The Department of Education has been informed of her intent. If the proposal is approved, the bonuses would be distributed in 2026.
The Grundy County school district is the only one out of 147 to turn down the bonus money that was included in Gov. Bill Lee’s school voucher program. The state totally funds the bonus money.
