Independence Day Fire in Dunlap

On Friday, July 4th, 2025, Dunlap Volunteer Firefighters were dispatched to a structure fire at 11:18 PM to a residence just off Barker Road.

Neighbors woke the occupants to tell them their detached garage was on fire.

Dunlap Fire Department requested a mutual aid tanker from Southend VFD. The garage was a total loss, and the residence received exterior damage from the heat, but a good initial knockdown by firefighters prevented any fire from spreading into the residence.

There were no injuries, and the occupants were able to stay in their home. Based on interviews with the occupants, the cause appears to be fireworks that were placed in a garbage can in the garage after they were shot. Firefighters cleared the scene around 1:30 AM on July 5.
