A lengthy narcotics investigation by the DeKalb County Drugs and Major Crimes Unit ended Monday, October 6, with multiple arrests and a large drug seizure during a raid in Fyffe, Alabama.
According to the sheriff’s office, the DeKalb County Special Response Team executed a search warrant at a residence on Hammonds Road, seizing 101 grams of methamphetamine, fentanyl, marijuana, and several items of drug paraphernalia.
Authorities say 16 people were found inside the home engaged in illegal gambling. In the main gambling area, deputies discovered marijuana, cigarettes, baggies of marijuana, and methamphetamine pipes.
Joseph M. Higgins, 48, of Valley Head, was arrested and charged with trafficking methamphetamine, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, and unlawful possession of marijuana. Investigators say Higgins also has multiple outstanding warrants with other agencies.
Fifteen others were charged with second-degree unlawful possession of marijuana, including:
David Hughes (57, Fyffe), Mark Mayes (52, Pisgah), Johnny Martin (73, Fyffe), Austin Coots (29, Fyffe), Kelli Hudson (31, Fyffe), Randy Guest (67, Fyffe), Rickey Martin (69, unknown address), Leonard Whaley (55, Valley Head), Billy Cisco (58, Fyffe), Willie Wright (50, Rainsville), Micah Freeman (44, Fort Payne), Mark Smith (50, Scottsboro), Melessa Mulligan (54, Rainsville), John Mulligan (59, Valley Head), and Edwin Guest (32, Fyffe).
