Grundy County deputies arrested a man after he brought an AR-style BB gun into the courthouse and aimed it at an employee. According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to a “man with a gun” call at the Grundy County Courthouse on Tuesday, February 3.
The suspect, identified as Michael Hammond, was seen pointing the gun at a county employee as he walked toward the stairwell. He then proceeded upstairs into a large courtroom where court was in session, still holding the gun. A corrections officer and a court officer confronted Hammond.
Initial reports described the weapon as a “black and tan AR style weapon,” but it was later found to be a metal BB gun designed to look like an AR-15, complete with a removable metal magazine.
Hammond is now facing multiple charges: disorderly conduct, three counts of aggravated assault, carrying a weapon during judicial proceedings, and harassment.
