Sequachee Valley Electric Cooperative (SVEC) reports an attempted theft at one of their substations early Thursday morning.

According to an online statement from SVEC, “An individual unlawfully entered one of our substations and attempted to steal a spool of wire. The attempt was unsuccessful.”
Officials with the utility say all of their substations are secured and monitored by security cameras and they work closely with law enforcement and will prosecute trespassing and theft to the full extent of the law.
They also want to remind people that electrical substations are extremely dangerous as they are fully-energized facilities. If a person were to make contact with the wrong equipment, without proper training and protective gear, it can result in severe injury or death.
SVEC says that their substation facilities are not storage yards. They are critical infrastructure that power homes, businesses, schools, and emergency services across the communities they serve.
They want to ensure the public that the physical security of our system, and the safety of their members, very seriously.
SVEC asks that  if you see suspicious activity near any of their facilities, to please contact local law enforcement immediately to help them protect the power that serves us all.
