Two Marion County Women Accused of Stealing More Than $300,000 Through Financial Exploitation Scheme

JASPER, Tenn. — Two Marion County women are facing felony charges after authorities accused them of stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from a victim through unauthorized use of financial accounts, credit cards, and checks.

According to court records, Veronica Jones and Crystal Crum were arrested following an investigation into alleged financial exploitation dating back to 2019.

Investigators allege the women used the victim’s financial resources without authorization over a period of several years. Among the allegations, authorities claim the pair used a Chase Visa credit card belonging to the victim to make purchases through Amazon totaling more than $60,000.

Court documents state neither woman had permission to use the credit card for personal expenses.

Investigators also allege Jones and Crum wrote checks from a Reliance Title Agency account to pay personal Capital One credit card bills. Authorities estimate the amount involved in those transactions exceeded $250,000.

In addition to the theft allegations, Crum is accused of forging the signature of attorney Harvey J. Cameron on multiple checks drawn from the Cameron and Cameron Law Firm checking account. According to investigators, the victim did not authorize the use of his name, and the forged checks reportedly totaled more than $10,000.

Jones has been charged with theft of property over $250,000 and theft of property over $60,000.

Crum faces charges of theft of property over $250,000, theft of property over $60,000, and forgery over $10,000.

Both women were booked into custody on June 10.

Court records show Jones was released on a $40,000 bond, while Crum’s bond was set at $60,000.

As with all criminal cases, the charges are allegations, and both defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
