The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) is once again taking part in Operation Dry Water (ODW), a year-round campaign that focuses on boating under the influence (BUI) and enforcement. ODW increases attention and enforcement efforts each year during the July 4th holiday, which this year falls on July 3-5 (Friday through Sunday).
Boaters can expect to see more officers patrolling the water throughout the July 4th weekend.
In Tennessee, operating a boat with a Blood Alcohol Content of .08 percent or above is illegal, just like driving a car with that level of alcohol. Penalties for breaking this law can include fines, jail time, impounding your boat, and losing your boat operating privileges.
