The Sequatchie County Fair is underway this week, bringing several days of carnival rides, live entertainment, exhibits, animals, games and special events to the Sequatchie County Fairgrounds in Dunlap.
The fair, which dates back to 1938, is being held at the fairgrounds at 103 Heard Street. Activities began Tuesday and continue through Saturday, August 15.
Fox Creek Amusements returns this year with carnival rides and midway games. The carnival is scheduled from 6 to 10 p.m. Tuesday, 5 to 10 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, and 6 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Fair week entertainment includes a game night Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m., followed by live music Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. featuring The Ed Brown Band. Admission to Wednesday’s performance is free.
The fair’s exhibits will be open Thursday through Saturday, August 13-15, from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. each day. Exhibits include traditional county fair entries such as quilts and canned goods.
Thursday’s schedule also includes a talent show beginning at 5:30 p.m., while Music Makers is scheduled to perform Friday at 3:30 p.m.
CW Farms Petting Zoo will be another attraction Thursday through Saturday, opening at 10 a.m. each day. The petting zoo is expected to feature a variety of animals, including exotic and farm animals.
Saturday will feature a full day of special activities. The 4th Annual Sequatchie County Fair Bike & Car Show begins with registration at 9 a.m., with judging scheduled for noon. The show includes vehicle classes ranging from pre-1940 models through 2020 and newer vehicles. The entry fee is $10.
A Sacred Harp shape-note singing is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday. Sacred Harp singing is a traditional form of a cappella shape-note singing with deep roots in the American South.
Other Saturday activities include the Stick Horse Rodeo/Farmer Olympics at 3 p.m. and bingo beginning at 5 p.m.
The Sequatchie County Fair Association says its mission is to continue a local fair tradition that has been part of the county for generations.
