A 7-month-old child was found safe Monday after authorities say she was abducted from a gas station in Henagar, Alabama.
According to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, the infant’s parents had reportedly hired a man to drive them from North Carolina to Nebraska. During a stop at a gas station in Henagar, investigators say the parents went inside the store while the driver remained outside fueling the vehicle. Authorities allege the suspect then drove away in a white Ford Expedition with the baby still inside.
Investigators identified the suspect as Selvin Alirio Reyes-Lopez. A BOLO was quickly issued to law enforcement agencies across North Alabama, and officers with the Madison Police Department located the SUV about 90 minutes later in Madison County. The infant was found unharmed and safely reunited with her parents.
Authorities said Reyes-Lopez is now facing kidnapping charges along with two counts of human smuggling. Federal officials with the Department of Homeland Security are also involved in the investigation.
