Bridgeport’s Charlie Smith Park Ribbon Cutting Postponed Due to Weather Threat

BRIDGEPORT, Ala. — City officials have announced that the ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony for the new Charlie Smith Park, originally scheduled for this Thursday, has been postponed due to the high probability of storms and heavy rainfall in the forecast.

According to officials, the event will be rescheduled for a later date, which will be announced once plans are finalized.

Despite the postponement of the formal ceremony, officials say the park’s splash pad is still expected to officially open Thursday, weather permitting. Hot dogs will also be provided for visitors during the opening.

City leaders reminded the public that the splash pad will not operate during periods of severe weather or thunderstorms for safety reasons.

The park project has generated excitement throughout the community and includes a new splash pad and recreational amenities designed to provide families and children with a new outdoor gathering space in Bridgeport.
