SCOTTSBORO, Ala. — A Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputy is being recognized for her quick thinking and life-saving actions during a critical emergency that left a woman seriously injured.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office announced that Deputy Brenda Fossett has been presented with the department’s Life Saving Award for her response to an incident involving a woman who was pinned between a tree and a lawn mower.

According to the sheriff’s office, the victim suffered a severe leg injury and significant blood loss as a result of the accident.

Officials said Deputy Fossett immediately assessed the situation and used a tourniquet to help control the bleeding while awaiting the arrival of emergency medical personnel. Her actions helped stabilize the victim until additional responders arrived on scene and the injured woman could be airlifted for further medical treatment.

The sheriff’s office credited Fossett’s quick thinking, calm demeanor, and decisive actions with playing a vital role in providing life-saving care during the emergency.

“Brenda’s professionalism, courage, and commitment to serving others went above and beyond the call of duty,” the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement announcing the award. “We are grateful for her dedication and proud to have her as part of our team.”
