Police said officers responded to the Scottsboro East Apartments around 9 p.m. on June 16 after receiving reports of a suspicious individual who had reportedly been in the area for several days.

When officers attempted to make contact with the individual, he left the area in a vehicle, authorities said. A short time later, officers located a vehicle matching the description and conducted a traffic stop after observing a traffic violation.

During the investigation, officers identified the driver as Brandon Levon Cotton, 44, of Scottsboro. According to police, Cotton consented to a search of the vehicle.

The search allegedly resulted in the discovery of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

Cotton was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine)
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Police said Cotton was transported to the Scottsboro City Jail, where he was booked before being transferred to the Jackson County Jail on the felony drug charge.

The Scottsboro Police Department said it remains committed to addressing illegal drug activity and encouraged residents to report suspicious activity to law enforcement.

As with all criminal cases, the charges against Cotton are allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
